Beijing

In early February during my vacation I'm going to Beijing for five days, four nights. I transfer in Macau.

Drugs are greaaat!

So I've got the flu. Last night I took a nighttime pill which was supposed to help me sleep. It made me drowsy, but I still couldn't sleep through the night.

Tonight again I took a pill, and sleep seems all kinds of irresistible right now. However, I'm often unable to sleep when I'm feverish. Maybe more drugs is the key.

Side note:

What would I do without family & friends? I'm prone to try to do too many things at once. Good thing they remind me from time to time not to work like a dog and take care of myself. Pretty sure I'd self-destruct without 'em.

Taken for a ride

I was riding on the back of a scooter today. As we were leaving the parking lot, there was a bumpy spot so I said I'd get off. I wasn't heard, and the driver drove off. There I stood in half disbelief as the scooter scooted off. Quite funny.

I was in a neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with - near SOGO 2. I decided to walk around the area a bit, and I eventually found SOGO 1 and caught the shuttle bus back to the train station.

Time travel

Is time travel possible? Maybe. I got a perm today. I also officially have a cold. Joy!

Good thing the appointment was in the morning; it took about four hours to work my hair. Seemingly endless steps, chemicals in the air, and reading fashion magazines. Actually, it was less reading and more looking at pictures.

When heat was setting my curls, steam was rising from my head. It was good to let off a little steam.

My hair turned out a little different than I thought it would. I thought it'd be afro-ish, but that it'd have settled down with time. But no - this is a very tame perm. I should also add that the hairdresser wanted to thin my hair out first, so that's a contributing factor.

The Spelling Bee

The first round of the Spelling Bee competition took place today. It seems like we've been practicing the words for a long time. Maybe we didn't live and breathe the Spelling Bee word list, but it's presence was felt.

We will be holding a final round next week, and today's winning students will battle it out for the prestige and points. And do they ever love points.

Visa-rrific

Guess who got her Chinese visa? That'd be me. True - it's the first hurdle to actually traveling to China. There's still the flight, hotel, etc. to worry about. I do worry too. Anyway, the plan is to visit Beijing during my break between semesters. I have other travel plans too, but we'll see if all comes together.

Yesterday I went to a clothing store and ended up chatting with the staff. It's always interesting trying to communicate when you don't speak enough of the same language. One of the staff asked about the pronunciation of "shirt," and I was more than happy to help. They were very nice and friendly, and even gave me a discount.

Unexpected visitor

Scholastic bunny dropped by my classroom this morning. The rabbits are escape artists who practice their trade daily. This one may have an interest in learning English.
